When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:
It wasn’t by design, I hadn’t planned to be in this industry but I loved civil construction straight away from my first taste in 2014 - the challenges, problem solving and incredible people. There's something really special about building legacy infrastructure that connects communities everyday.
What are you most passionate about?
E tangata E tangata E tangata! Its all about people! I love working in such a diverse industry, supporting and coaching others to grow, particularly rangatahi.
Why did you join NAWIC?
I wanted to be part of a community that embraces the diversity woman bring to construction - connecting with like-minded wahine to encourage and support younger woman entering the industry.
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
A construction industry where woman truly feel like their contribution is valued and they belong.
Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:
Younger me felt like I needed to be “one of the boys” to fit in.
Now, a bit older (and hopefully wiser!) I embrace my true authentic self, recognising how ESSENTIAL these feminine qualities are in our industry.
There is so much opportunity in construction and loads of people who want to see you succeed! Find a great mentor who can offer perspective and always be open to try something new.
What is your favourite thing to do for fun:
My happy place is under the water snorkeling, diving or swimming!
I also love jamming with friends, roller skating, pottering in the garden and hanging out with my whanau.
