When did you start in the construction industry:

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:
I realised I wanted to work in construction while growing up around my family’s civil earthworks contracting company. I was able to witness how hard work and dedication within the construction industry can positively impact communities. Over time, I realised how much I enjoyed problem-solving and saw the construction industry as the perfect way to combine that passion with my technical knowledge and creating practical solutions.
What are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about creating safer buildings by applying earthquake engineering standards to seismic restraint design and promoting best practices that prioritise safety and resilience. I am dedicated to increasing the representation of women in the construction and infrastructure industries by inspiring, mentoring, and supporting others.
Why did you join NAWIC?
I saw this as an opportunity to get more involved in the Manawatu region and advocate for increasing the representation of women in the construction industry. I also saw this as an opportunity to give back to the industry by sharing the support and mentorship I’ve received, with the hope of passing it on to others.
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
I would like to see more women in construction in the future. I believe that women bring a unique and valued perspective to this industry.
Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:
Always give everything a go and embrace opportunities that come your way. With hard work and dedication, you can achieve more than you ever imagined—never write anything off!
What is your favourite thing to do for fun:
I love spending time with my family, friends and pets. I love doing anything active whether that be travelling, sports or finding a new brunch spot.
