What is your current title for work?
Director, Communications & Engagement
When did you start in the construction industry?
2012
When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do?
After qualifying as an accountant with PwC, I moved to a start up specializing in landfill gas power generation. I’ve always enjoyed working on site when possible to better understand what looks like groundworks soon becomes a community project. I then moved into finance and telecommunications so in 2012 I was very happy to work for a major contractor across tunnelling, rail, health, and building projects.
What are you most passionate about?
Our industry creates fantastic legacies for our communities. We love to recognise the role of our teams in creating those legacies. I hope we’re all focused on the importance of safety and getting our mates home everyday. I really enjoy creating opportunities for those looking to progress or diversify their experience.
Why did you join NAWIC?
I have had some exposure to NAWIC in Australia and so on moving to NZ and taking up my current role, I was keen for our organisation to join as part of our commitment to sustainability.
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
Inclusion – the willingness of all to open opportunities for LGBTQ+
Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:
Never consider a door closed and never be one to pull the ladder in behind you.
What is your favourite thing to do for fun?
Getting out on the water. I love NZ’s outdoors and how accessible it is for us all.
