What is your current title for work?
Sustainability Manager
When did you start in the construction industry:
2014
When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:
For me it was more a case of falling into the industry on accident…. Upon which I very quickly learnt how diverse it was, opportunities plentiful and no two projects the same.
All of a sudden 10 years have passed and I feel like I have only just gotten started with opportunities continuing to present themselves in places I never expected.
What are you most passionate about?
Fostering meaningful connections and empowering others. I believe that strong communities are the foundation of a thriving society, and by supporting one another, we can create an environment where everyone can reach their full potential.
Why did you join NAWIC?
I joined NAWIC so that I could give back to the industry. Over the last 10 years, my biggest takeaway from the industry is the power of relationships. I want to help foster and grow those for our local community in a way to support new wahine coming up through the ranks.
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
Breaking down the unconscious biases that are so prevalent in our industry, so that women can given the same opportunities as our male counterparts.
And the I’d love to see an industry where women can whole heartedly lean into the purpose, skill and ability without fear of being undermined or looked over, and being given the same opportunities as our male counterparts.
Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:
A wealth of opportunities will be presented to you – say yes, be curious, and most importantly have fun. It’s certainly a journey – with an open mindset, who knows where in the world you could end up!
What is your favourite thing to do for fun:
You’ll find me in the outdoors making the most of our wonderful environment either by kayaking, trail running, mountain biking, skiing or climbing !
