Architectural Technician/Graduate
How many years have you been in the construction industry:
Since 2020
When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:
I had been studying a Diploma in Architectural Technology on the side, whilst playing full-time golf and pursuing that as a career. Architecture had always been option B for my career as I loved being creative and designing spaces. I then decided it might be fun to get a job... so I started applying and moved to Hawkes Bay for my first job as a Graduate, and from then on, I have been getting involved in this industry in any way that I can for maximum exposure. I never thought it was something I actually wanted to pursue, but here we are, and I am looking forward to seeing what more opportunities come forward.
What are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about growth and development in the professional career, to explore interests and passions, build professional competencies and grow in the career direction that’s right for you. I have always struggled to figure out what I enjoy doing, especially in a male dominated industry. But exposing myself to as many opportunities as possible has been my focus.
Why did you join NAWIC?
To connect to women in the industry, build relationships, learn about New Zealand through the gatherings, site visits, events etc. Being in a community gives a sense of belonging, which is
what NAWIC is all about, and I love it!
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
I would like to see equal access to opportunities for career advancement, mentorship, and professional development. I also aspire to see more initiatives aimed at attracting youngwomen to careers in construction, breaking down stereotypes, and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive based on their skills and dedication, regardless of gender.
