When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:
I never set out to work in construction, and it wasn’t something I saw as an industry I would be any good in. I was working with at risk youth and after a particularly challenging period I saw a job ad, applied on a whim and got the job and everything clicked for me and I knew I had found my place.
What are you most passionate about?
On a career perspective the human experience of the spaces I work on, on an industry perspective, the power of education and work life balance. Having clear pathways and pastoral care as part of the apprentice program to enable easy access for those of us that working in environments that are not positive to navigate a way out and into better situations.
Why did you join NAWIC?
I joined NAWIC to be a part of a community of women in the same industry as me. It can be isolating and having a group of women to be able to learn and share experiences with is something I am excited to engage in. its important to create an environment of community over competition, my network of women have helped me so much over the years and I strive to pay that forward. I see my involvement with NAWIC as the vehicle to do this.
