Technical Fellow – Strategic Asset Management
When did you start in the construction industry:
1996
When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:
When I started working at Nelson City Council in the mid-nineties I knew that working for local government, planning for and delivering great community infrastructure was somewhere where I could make a positive and lasting impact.
I enjoy helping communities around the world, to thrive and prosper through managing their assets and services sustainably and effectively, I get a kick out of seeing infrastructure projects and programmes come to fruition, and the benefits to the people that live in these communities realised.
What are you most passionate about?
Asset Management!
Why did you join NAWIC?
I joined NAWIC after reading about it’s vision and objectives which really resonated with me and inspired me to be part of something good with strong allyship for women. I have a desire to support women in our wider industry to succeed and grow, this has been instilled in me from the pioneering efforts of my own mother and also from inspirational women through my own life.
I was also fortunate to be nominated by my organisation Beca for the Helen Tippet NAWIC award in 2024, and the rest is history!
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
That women are equitably represented, acknowledged and supported as a vital and enduring part of our construction industry without having to prove that they are!
Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:
Find a supportive team and environment where you are respected and have a voice. Choose organisations that will see, promote and sponsor your hard work and efforts.
Invest in your own growth and development. If you feel undervalued – move to an organisation that does value who you are.
What is your favourite thing to do for fun:
Netball is my passion, I have in recent years found a real love of sea fishing!
