RACHEL WILLIAMS

TE MÄ€NUKANUKA O HOTURA / SOUTH AUCKLAND COMMITTEE

What is your current title for work?

Labor Hire Account Manager – Building Recruitment Ltd

When did you start in the construction industry:

1997 – right out of school

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:

My Father and Grandfather were builders, I grew up loving the smell of timber, helping them in the workshop, so it was a natural progression to join the industry, not as a builder but in construction materials and now helping my clients staff their projects.

What are you most passionate about?

Having two teenage daughters myself, I would like to see a world where they can be accepted for who they are and what they are capable of, so that they have an equal chance at doing anything with their lives.

Why did you join NAWIC?

To be part of something that is bigger than me and to meet other women in the industry.  To grow the network within the South Auckland community and provide support to women young and old.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

Equality, in all areas of the industry, to show the world the benefits of having women on your team whether it be on the tools or in leadership roles.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have, and I’m especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their person stories to encourage other strong woman to be brave enough to Just Do It!

What is your favourite thing to do for fun:

My family and I are big supporters of Speedway, and we spend our summers on the pit crew for a Sprint Car Driver, travelling all over NZ …. Nothing like the smell of methanol and the roar of the engines off the start line!
