TE MÄ€NUKANUKA O HOTURA / SOUTH AUCKLAND CHAPTER CHAIR, TREASURER (ACTING)

What is your current title for work?

Account Manager at PlaceMakers Pukekohe

When did you start in the construction industry:

I started at PlaceMakers Pukekohe in 2016 and it's been great! Previous to working at PlaceMakers I worked for a tile company so was one foot in the industry then.

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:

When I was about 1 year into my role, things clicked, I loved my role and I thought I could add value and make a difference.

What are you most passionate about?

Ensuring voices are heard and we all have the opportunity to grow and develop in our roles to be the best we can be. We can do that by supporting each other and having a shared focus.

Why did you join NAWIC?

I was nominated for an award and was inspired by listening to everyone's story and their WHY!

I understood how important and empowering it is to be able to connect and network with women in the industry. There is so much knowledge and experience to share and just by providing a platform for us to connect BIG things will happen!

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

For one, more women seeing the potential of working in construction and two, more women in meaningful leadership roles adding value.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

If I think back to when I started I was thankful I had the confidence to ask questions. Asking questions, being curious and brave will get you a long way in your role! Also know you can, and will, make a difference!

What is your favourite thing to do for fun:

I love sport - volunteering and all that this brings to your life.
