What is your current title for work?

Environmental Manager – Takitimu North Link

When did you start in the construction industry:

2014

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:

I fell into it by accident. My first ever job out of university I worked for a consultancy who just won the contract to work on a major infrastructure project. I went into the project as an environmental advisor and once I saw how much of a real impact you could make in this industry I fell in love with it. Ever since that first job I haven’t seen myself working in any other industry.

What are you most passionate about?

Professionally I am incredibly passionate about undertaking big projects with as little harm on the environment as possible. Coming up with out of the box environmental solutions to tricky problems. I am also very passionate about mentoring and upskilling young people into the construction industry and have been very proud watching some of my team members with previously no experience develop into young professionals.

Why did you join NAWIC?

For connecting with other women in the industry not just within the field I work with also.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

That they feel empowered, included and accepted within the wider construction industry. That we see an increase in younger women making their way into the industry and staying here.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

Be bold, brave back yourself and make your ideas heard and known.

What is your favourite thing to do for fun:

Diving, spearfishing, hunting, mountain biking and cooking up a storm in the kitchen!
