What is your current title for work?
Digital and Brand Marketing Manager, Rheem NZ
When did you start in the construction industry:
2021
When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:
My dad is a builder, and I grew up as a ‘helper’ by clearing building sites, edging driveways, removing wallpaper, demolishing, plastering, using all the tools. I enjoyed seeing tangible results of hard work!
This hands-on experience instilled in me a passion for construction and a deep appreciation for the industry.
What are you most passionate about?
A work-life balance and prioritising mental health!
I am about to do my Mental Health First Aid certificate and looking forward to being able to help others with their own journeys.
Why did you join NAWIC?
I didn’t grow up in an era where I was encouraged to be a tradie or play rugby. I love that NAWIC is there to encourage women in construction to engage with and mentor others in their communities, fostering a culture of empowerment and support.
By establishing this network for women in construction to provide support and advocacy, NAWIC plays a crucial role in breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for women to thrive in this industry.
Joining NAWIC would allow me to contribute to this mission, connect with like-minded professionals, and be part of a movement that is shaping the future of women in construction.
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
More women taking on roles at all levels, from apprenticeships to executive positions, creating a more diverse and balanced workforce. With this, I would also like to see workplaces implementing policies that support diversity and inclusion, such as equal pay for equal work and addressing unconscious bias in the hiring and promotion processes.
Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:
Don't hesitate to advocate for your own career growth and development! Seek out opportunities for advancement and make your aspirations known. Pursuing your passions will keep you motivated and fulfilled in your career.
What is your favourite thing to do for fun:
I’m a DIY fiend and love doing reno’s and additions. We are in the process of completing our first outdoor kitchen, but the life goal is to restore an old Villa one day.
And hanging out at the beach!
